Why is public liability insurance essential for event organisers?
Ensure you have comprehensive Public Liability Insurance. It will protect you from claims made by members of the public. Even if you’re hosting a private party thrown at your own home, Public Liability Insurance is recommended in case your guest suffers an accident or illness and decides to sue you. While you might hope this would never happen – you can never be certain!
Your event’s venue and local authorities are likely to want proof of your Public Liability Insurance before allowing an event to take place.
Limits available are £1,000,000, £2,000,000, £5,000,000 or £10,000,000. Insure Our Event recommends a minimum of £5,000,000. If you are found liable for an incident, the policy will pay for damages, expenses and claimant costs up to the limit set in your policy.
Our Public Liability policy covers you for the following (if you are deemed liable):
- Accidental bodily injury occurring to a member of the public
- Accidental damage to third party property
- Liability of guests or audience members attending
- Cover for legal fees, compensation, damages, and expenses
- The cover protects you from the set-up of your event – essentially, the moment you arrive at the venue
What isn’t covered with our public liability insurance:
- Claims which are below the value of the excess of the policy
- Damage or injuries which arise out of a deliberate act, vandalism or is malicious in nature
- Damage or injuries occurring due to activities that we would consider unsafe. Please consult our Policy Wording for further information
- Damage to flooring (other than carpeting), the ground or underground services
- Injuries or damage which arise as a result of intoxication or drug use.
- Loss or damage to property which you own, have borrowed, hired, or holding in trust
